KATIE & LINDSEY
Backyard Wedding in Bay Shore, NY
Photos at Hecksher State Park
Sometimes the best ceremonies are held closest to home. Katie and Lindsey got married on a mild day in mid October in an intimate ceremony held in Katie's parents' backyard. The setting was warm and inviting, allowing family and friends to reflect fondly on past memories and look forward to creating new ones with great excitement.
When shooting in backyard setting, I try to utilize as much variation in lighting and angle as possible, as this will help to add diversity to the shoot. Capitalize on spots where old childhood memories were made and incorporate nostalgic elements to compliment the new chapter in your couples' life.
After shooting the ceremony I took Katie and Lindsey to Hecksher Park in Great River. This was going to be the first session I had ever done there, so I was excited to be working at the park with such a great couple. The landscape was sprawling with lush greenery and had a great weathered barn, giving the shoot a very rustic yet chic look. When shooting in a setting such as this, try to think outside the box and avoid taking what could easily be considered as a quintessential "wedding shot." Don't just shoot the couple in front of the barn; have them stand on it or inside, if safe to do so, and incorporate elements from the ceremony into the location.
Katie and Lindsey are a great couple and I had a blast working with them! Congratulations!
